Facilities

The college was founded by the TKM Educational Trust, an organization established by Thangal Kunju Musaliar. The college's foundation stone was laid in 1956 by Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. The college is located at Karicode, a suburb town of the coastal city of Kollam on the Kollam-Schencottah NH-208 road. There is a railway station at Karicode called Kilikollur railway station. Direct trains connect Kollam Junction Railway station to all important cities of the country. The college is six kilometres away from Kollam city centre (Chinnakada). The main building is designed in the grand medieval Mughal architectural style with courtyards, around which are spread the departmental buildings, library block, laboratories, workshops and hostels.

The college started with 120 students and a faculty of six, offering courses in mechanical engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering. The college now has more than 3000 students with about 250 faculty, supported by 136 non-teaching staff. The college has laboratories and computer facilities.
The institute offers B.Tech programs in eight branches of engineering, five M.Tech programs and a Computer Applications (MCA) Program. The programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

The College also offers part-time degree courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It is also an approved research centre for Mechanical and Civil Engineering. It is supported by about 375 eminent staff members; teaching and non-teaching, and about 800 students are admitted every year in various disciplines.

The College runs on a well- structured platform, that offers various infrastructure facilities such as the Central library, Department libraries, Central and Departmental Computer facilities, Hostels for boys and girls of various semesters, Career Guidance and Placement Cell, Cooperative Society Store, Medical Cell and Sports facilities like Football court, Basket Ball courts, Tennis Court, Volley Ball court, Shuttle-Badminton Court, Multi-Gymnasium, Hockey Practice Court, Table Tennis Hall and a  Cricket pitch. The College has a common auditorium and seminar halls for various departments, equipped with modern audio-visual presentation devices. The students participate regularly in events conducted by the N.S.S, N.A.S.A, I.E.E.E., I.S.T.E, S.S.A., I.I.C.E and the college union.

An active Career- Guidance and Placement Cell functions here that periodically conducts personality workshops, mock tests for competitive examinations and ensures a considerable number of placements for students from this institution.

Central Library

A fully automated modern Library & Information Centre (LIC), established with the inception of the college in 1958 is on its way to becoming an outstanding learning resource centre catering to the ever growing and uncompromising information and intellectual requirements of the students, faculty, and researchers. The LIC has one of the finest collections of latest Engineering and management publications. It plays an important role in the provision of information to the academic community in the TKM College of Engineering. It has a collection of more than seventy five thousand books and subscribes to more than one hundred periodical and 10 Newspapers. Library follows the Anglo American cataloguing Rules II (with slight modifications) for Cataloguing and Dewey Decimal Scheme of Classification for the classification of books. Owing to the developments in IT/Internet and the recent upsurge of Digital Information resources/services, there is a heavy demand from the users of digital Library Services. With a view to address the above TKMCE has launched a digital library where the academic community can approach for satisfying their knowledge requirements.

The hostels provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere to accelerate the creative talents of the students. The teachers who act as resident wardens of the hostels provide moral and emotional support and guidance to the inmates.

The hostels provide good food at very responsible rates, as the mess is managed by the students themselves, following a dividing system. Transportation is arranged for the residents to move in and out. They have all kinds of recreational amenities like T.V., telephone (incoming and outgoing), internet facilities, indoor and outdoor games, and facilities like postal and banking services in the campus. Another added attraction is round-the-clock power and water supply.
