M.Sc. Life Science or Master of Science in Life Science is a postgraduate Environmental course. Life science comprises the fields of science that involve the scientific study of living organisms, like plants, animals, and human beings. As far this Masters’ degree is concerned there is a common curriculum for semesters I, II and III, whereas in semester IV, the students will be given the option of specializing in one area from different areas of Life Sciences that would be on offer at that time. The minimum duration of the programme is two years the maximum time is four years. The syllabus for the course is of four semesters and career offering in nature.

How is M.Sc. Life Science Course Beneficial?

·         The Master degree course gives good base for higher degree programs in respective subjects such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. for research work.

·          They can become teachers in schools on private basis and after clearing the NET exam can go for permanent jobs at college/universities.

·         They can seek jobs in healthcare industries like pharmaceutical industries, medical research, genetic engineering, lab technology and pharmaceutical sales.

·         Candidates can seek place for jobs in research institutes. Here, they utilize latest scientific tools and techniques in laboratory consecutively to understand how living systems work.

·         The Master degree course has a wide range of job opportunities in different areas such as material science, biomedical science, chemical and physical science and engineering.

Course Suitability

·         Those who are willing to go for teaching fields at higher degree level both in private and government institutions.

·         They should have transferable skills such as management and administration which are the ones generally considered most desirable for the candidates.

·         Other skills are research, ethics, peer communication and time management.

·         They should have scientific knowledge or methods outside present research areas.

Eligibility

·         B.Sc. (three years) Degree after 10+2 with Major/Honours in Life Sciences and any other related life science discipline/Biosciences/Botany/Zoology

·         B.Sc. General/Pass degree with Life sciences/Biosciences with Botany and Zoology (equal weight-age) as two of the three main Subjects.

·         At least 50 per cent marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade for General candidates and 45% marks for SC/ST candidates.
