B.Voc in Microbiology deals with topics such as bacteriology, virology and mycology etc. Microbiologist identifies the agents of infectious diseases and they also figure out new pathogens.

Eligibility Criteria for B. Voc in Microbiology

 

• Students who have completed plus two are eligible to get admission in the B.Voc course generally.

• Those who have qualified SSLC and completed one year of BSS Diploma course in microbiology are eligible to get admission to the B. Voc course.

• Students who have completed Plus two and one year of BSS Diploma course in microbiology are eligible to get direct admission to the second year of B. Voc course (3^rd   semester).

 

 

Course Duration

 

• Three years for those who enter into the course generally.

• Candidates who have completed relevant and equivalent course are possible to get admission through lateral entry scheme (For further reference check Eligibility criteria section).

 

Job Duties

 

• Plan and conduct complex research projects, such as improving sterilization procedures or developing new drugs to combat infectious diseases

• Perform laboratory experiments that are used in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses

• Supervise the work of biological technicians and other workers and evaluate the accuracy of their results

• Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms for study

• Identify and classify microorganisms found in specimens collected from humans, plants, animals, or the environment

• Monitor the effect of microorganisms on plants, animals, other microorganisms, or the environment

• Review literature and the findings of other researchers and attend conferences

• Prepare technical reports, publish research papers, and make recommendations based on their research findings

• Present research findings to scientists, nonscientist executives, engineers, other colleagues, and the public

Working Environment

 

• The work is generally laboratory-based in pathology departments or diagnostic laboratories in hospitals, although there are opportunities in other types of work environments. You'll usually need to wear protective clothing such as gloves, coat and safety glasses.

• You'll often work as part of a small team on projects and will usually be responsible for managing your own workload.

• Contract and temporary work is available at graduate and technician level within a number of sectors.

• Research work can provide more variety than that of routine identification or monitoring, which may be more structured.

• You may need to travel during the day for meetings or on-site visits.
