B.Voc in Community Health course prepares students to provide primary health care services in villages, under the supervision of a referral physician. As a prerequisite, students entering the program must be employed by a regional health corporation. The curriculum includes the knowledge and skills necessary to provide acute care for common medical problems, emergency care, follow-up care for patients with chronic illnesses, and preventive services including prenatal and well-child care. 


Eligibility Criteria for B.Voc in Community Health 
 

  • Students who completed plus two and two year of BSS Diploma course in Community Health is eligible to get direct admission to the third year of B. Voc course (5th semester)

  • Those who qualified SSLC and two year of BSS Diploma course in Community Health are eligible to get direct admission to the second year of B. Voc course (3rd semester)


Course Duration
 

  • Three years for those who enter into the course generally.

  • Candidates who completed BSS diploma course are possible to get admission through lateral entry scheme (For further reference check Eligibility criteria section)

 

Chief duties of community health workers

 

  • handling minor diseases and ailments

  • taking care of pregnant women and looking after children. 

  • They also help with family planning, endorsement and encouragement of cleanliness and hygiene, investigating for infectious diseases, 

  • carries out health education programs, 

  • collects health related data, 

  • maintain records  

  • provide healthcare referrals

 

Community Health Workers hold the following roles:

 

  • Creating connections between vulnerable populations and healthcare systems

  • Facilitating healthcare and social service system navigation

  • Managing care and care transitions for vulnerable populations

  • Reducing social isolation among patient populations

  • Determining eligibility and enrolling individuals into health insurance plans

  • Ensuring cultural competence among healthcare professionals serving vulnerable populations

  • Educating health system providers and stakeholders about community health needs

  • Providing culturally appropriate health education on topics related to chronic disease prevention, physical activity and nutrition

  • Providing informal counseling, health screenings, and referrals

  • Building capacity to address health issues

Community Helath Workers promote access to services, provide health education, support care delivery, and promote advocacy. The specific role of them in rural health programs is dependent on:
