 College of Engineering, Perumon was started in 2000 under the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education ( CAPE Kerala ) Society. The society was formed to establish educational institutions to provide education and training, research and development, and consultancy. The society is promoted by the Co-operation Department of the government of Kerala and is an autonomous society. The institution functions on a no-profit no-loss basis, a system upheld by the Supreme Court of India. The AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) has given approval for the conduct of the courses. The state government has sanctioned five B.Tech degree courses, and the Cochin University of Science and Technology has academically accredited it.

Programs

 

The college offers Engineering courses in Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and PG course(M-Tech) in Computer & Information Science. Admission to all the seats in this institution was through the Central Counseling by the Govt. of Kerala. Candidates admitted are those allotted by the commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Kerala based on the Common Entrance Examination to professional courses of the respective years applying the principles of mandatory reservation. For academic year 60% seats are treated as free seats and filled by the allotment of Commissioner of Entrance Examinations and out of the balance 35% Management Quota is allotted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination and 5% NRI is filled up by the CAPE. For the Management Quota also, mandatory reservation principles, eligibility rules and fees are as prescribed by Govt.of Kerala Affiliated University.
The Institution is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technolgy (CUSAT) which is one of the prestigious university in India.The AICTE has also accorded approval for the conduct of the courses in this Institution.

Admissions

 

B.Tech Degree

  • Selection is made as per the rank obtained by eligible candidates in the state-level Common Entrance Exam conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE), Kerala State.60% of the seats in the Colleges under CAPE will be allotted by the CEE as per the reservation policy of the Government. So also, 35% of seats under Management quota under these institutions are also allotted by the CEE on merit basis and 5% N.R.I seat filled by CAPE on the basis of rank.

  • The Candidate shall have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (Class XII) of Board of Higher Secondary Examination. Govt. of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects or any other examinations accepted as equivalent there to by the Cochin University of Science and Technology(CUSAT).

  • The Candidate shall have secured a minimum of 50% marks for Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

  • In the case of candidates belonging to socially and educationally backward classes (referred to in G.O (P)208/66/Edn. Dated 2.5.1966, as amended from time to time) the minimum marks requirements are 45% for mathematics and 45% for mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

  • In the case of SC/ST students only a pass in the Higher Secondary examination (Class XII) with the above subjects.

  • The candidates shall also satisfy the conditions regarding physical fitness as may be prescribed by the University.

 

M.Tech Degree

  • The candidates shall be Indian.First class(60% marks) or Percentage equivalent of GPA in BE/B.Tech in any discipline from an AICTE approved/Deemed University in India.

  • For SC/ST candidates , a pass in the Qualifying Degree Examination is sufficient.

  • For SEBC(OBC) students , a minimum of 54% aggregate marks in the Engineering Degree Examination is mandatory.

  • Candidates who have passed AMIE/AMIETE Examination and satisfying the following condition are eligible.

                   1. They must have valisd Gate Score.
                   2. A minimum of 55% marks for section B in AMIE/AMIETE examination

  • Candidates who have appeared for the final semester examination can also apply provided he/she passed all the subjects up to and including 6'th sem Exam(8'th sem for B.Arch students). Conbfirmation of admission of such candidates shall be subject to the production of qualifying degree satisfying clausesV(a) to (d) as applicable on or before the date stipulated by the affiliated University.

  • Admission shall normally be restricted to those with valid GATE score. However, this stipulation is relaxed in the case of Sponsored Candidates.

  • In case seats remain vacant due to lack of candidates with valid GATE score candidates from Kerala State without valid GATE score will also be considered against such vacancies. If seats still remaining vacant, candidate from other states will be considered for admission.

  • Admission shall normally be restricted to those who are included in the rank list published by the DTE for M Tech admission. However, this stipulation is relaxed in the case of sponsored candidates.
  • In case seats remain vacant due to lack of candidates from DTE rank list, candidates with valid GATE score will be considered. Even if seats are still remaining vacant, candidates without valid gate score will be considered for admission against such vacancies.
  • For sponsored candidates, minimum of 2 years experience is required after acquiring a qualifying degree in a job where the minimum eligibility is the qualifying degree.
  • Sponsored candidates must have been in regular employment on Time Scale/ Pay Band with their sponsor for at least two years.

 

Facilities

 

The institution has 25 acres of land (10 hectares) as allotted by the government of Kerala on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake. It is at Kuzhiyathu Junction along the Kollam - Perumon Road (via - Anchalummoodu) 12 km away from Kollam Railway Station /bus stand via NH 47. The nearest railway station is Perinad, Panayam at 1 km distance. The site is 78 km from Thiruvananthapuram Airport (nearest airport) and the Kochi Harbour is 165 km north.The Institution has a full fledged Training & Placement Cell (TPC) which dedicates itself to help students to develop their personality and establish their careers. The activites of TPC includes preparing the students to face Competitive Examinations and Interviews through intensive training. TPC is constantly in touch with companies and offers all facilities for conducting recruitment.

 

Library

The college is having a full-fledged library. It has a good collection of books to cater the needs of students and staff of the college. Adequate number of periodicals and technical journals are also available in the library. A separate reference section is arranged for the students. Library system is fully computerized. It has a wide collection of CDs and DVDs also. A subscription of E-journals under the AICTE sponsored scheme, which facilitates access to about 250 international journals, is under processing. Broadband Internet facility is also available in the Library.There is sufficient number of books, periodicals, CD/DVD, Floppy etc. for the Library. Books are issued to students regularly and the Library is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m on all working days.

Academic Software

College uses an academic software for recording academic activities. The web portal is www.prnassistant.org . Parents can monitor the academic data of their ward through the login username and password provided for them. The academic data includes attendance, internal marks, assignment marks, university marks etc. Parents shall contact respective class advisor’s/ tutors for getting username and password and also in case any difficulty in logging in the software. teachers enter the attendance immediately after engaging a period. Also the marks of the internal exams, assignments etc are entered after evaluation, so that parents can view them through their log-in. Attendance , marks etc of students will be send as sms to parents. Parents are advised to contact Class advisor’s/tutors in case they do not get the sms properly.

Internet Facilities

CEP Computer Center provides internet and intranet facilities to all users in the institute. For the network services, centre has the high end computational servers on which accounts are given to students, staff and faculty of the departments. College of Engineering Perumon has an extensive fiber optic network over the whole campus routed and Managed by UTM appliances.

The college computing facilities are also used for conducting various online tests. Online Journals like IEEE, Springer etc are available in the Computer Center. The Computer Center is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm on all working days and caters the needs of all staffs and students of the college.

The institute has a 24 X 7 Wi-Fi facility in the college campus for the students and faculty members to avail internet connection at any place in the college. It provides students the facilities of e-mail, net surfing, up/down loading of web based applications and helps them in preparing projects & seminars presentations.

College Bus

Eight college buses are running for the convenience of students and staff of the college. The financial backup for college buses is from the fees collected from students & staff at the beginning of each semester/year. It is governed by a bus committe presided by the Principal together with students representative.The college is providing bus passes for the students those who are availing the facility.

Seminar Hall

The seminar hall in the college is equipped with the latest Audio and Visual equipments for the conduct of Presentations, Seminars and personality development workshops.

NSS

National Service Scheme (NSS) has emerged as a powerful and dynamic youth movement in the country. The NSS is acting as a catalyst to build up the right way of leadership in an institution. The college has implemented the NSS. The main aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities to teachers and students for gaining valuable practical experiences of community service.

Gymnasium

A healthy body keeps you dynamically fit and energizes you in all your academic and co-curricular activities. The college gymnasium is functional inside the campus. Staff and students are expected to make the best use of these facilities.

Students Redressal Cell

A centralised confidential Students Greievance Redressal Cell has been constituted to redress the grievances and complaints of the the students as per the direction of the Govt of Kerala.Student's should represent their grievance and complaints , if any,in writing to the General convener.The committee consists of Principal and HOD's of all departments as members.
