Radiography involves the study of a medical sub field which diagnoses the ailment and diseases of the internal and hidden parts of the body using X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound (Sonography), CT Scan (Computer Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Angiography, PET (Positron Emission Tomography), etc. The degree course covers the study of both Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography which involves treatment of cancers and tumors with radiations. It includes study of subjects and topics such as Clinical Radiotherapy, Clinical Chemotherapy, Radiobiology, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care, etc. The duration of the course is three years and it is career orienting in nature.
How is B.Sc. Radiography Course Beneficial?
• B.Sc. (Radiography) degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as M.Sc., Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degree in Radiography, the successful completion of which makes one eligible for the post of a lecturer in any university/college as well as for an observer or a scientist.
• B.Sc. (Radiography) degree graduates have the options of pursuing a career in various specializations of Radiography such as in Bone Densitometry, Basic X-Ray, Computed Tomography, Mammography, MRI, Fluoroscopy, Angiography, Interventional Radiology, Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology, etc.
• As compared to other paramedical professions, employment opportunities in the field of Radiography are excellent, as this is a career where the demand exceeds supply. There is a huge requirement for physiotherapists in India and abroad, especially in countries like USA, Canada and Australia.
Eligibility
• The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.Sc. (Radiography) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects studied at intermediate level. Some reputed colleges and institutes demand a minimum of 50% marks in 10+2 as qualifying criteria to secure admission in this degree course.
• Some of the very reputed institutes also conduct entrance examination for admission. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.
