Yoga teachers teach yoga as a form of exercise to increase fitness and well-being.. A Yoga teacher is an expert in the Indian practice of Yoga and qualified to pass this on to students.Outside India, Yoga is commonly known as a set of physical exercises that bring health, calm and happiness to the practitioner.

To become a yoga instructor, in any style, comprehensive and specialized training is required. All yoga instructors must complete a training program in yoga and, within the field, have the option of specializing in a particular discipline.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

There are no set entry requirements to become a yoga teacher, but you may find it helpful to have:

  • 2 years' experience of practising yoga with a qualified teacher
  • a recognised yoga teaching qualification
  • accreditation from a yoga association
  • insurance cover

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Apart from the academic qualifications, it is also necessary that you have some of the following skills which include:

  • Good Communication Skills
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Skills to motivate others to believe in yoga
  • Strong Determination
  • Have a will power to practice the most difficult “asanas” or yogic positions

JOB MARKET

Fitness is the call of today’s world which raising the need of a yoga teacher or instructor on the global platform. There is a great career scope of yoga not in India but also in abroad. Yoga is an ancient art & natural ways to keep our body fit & healthy. Yoga not only helps physically, but in improving mental health. The integral part of Yoga is practiced physical exercises which called Asanas & breathing exercises which called Pranayam.

By seeing the benefits of Yoga, career opportunities in this field are increasing in India as well as in abroad also. After pursuing yoga courses, you can work in health clubs, yoga & pilates studios, special needs centre, private gym and in individual clients homes. With experience you could run your own yoga workshops, yoga retreats, or holidays.

You may be able to train as a yoga therapist or take further qualifications to train yoga teachers. After became a yoga instructor, you would usually be self-employed by running your own yoga school. 

For the Yoga Professionals, there are several job options available both in the government & private sectors. You can also self-employed by opening your own yoga center.

Yoga also opens various jobs in the given field such as research, management, hospital, academic, administrative, consultation, etc. The government has made it compulsory to have a Yoga teacher in every school.
