Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) founded in the year 2002 is located in Nedumangad, Kerala. The college, which is affiliated to the University of Kerala and its courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

 

Mohandas College is a project of the Mohandas Group of Companies and is managed by the VN Gangadhara Panikker Memorial Trust with Shri. G Mohandas as the Chairman and Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran as the Executive Director. The Institution is affiliated to Kerala Technological University and the courses are approved by AICTE. The Institution offers B. Tech courses of four year duration, MCA course of three year duration and M.Tech courses of two year duration 

The Institution strictly adheres to the procedures and policies of AICTE and ISO. As a part of its quality assurance, the college has received ISO 9001:2008 Certification. The Institution promotes and champions learning by providing a variety of instructional settings, where students and faculty can share and create new knowledge in science and technology. It distributes knowledge to an audience of peers and citizens through a great diversity of academic literature and professional activities. The facilities and infrastructure of this college and its ambience enables the students to bring out the best in them. Admissions:

 

For admission to any of the engineering courses offered by the college candidates must pass in Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or examination recognized equivalent there to with 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology / Computer Science put together.

Admission is based on the list published by the Govt. Entrance Commission for the merit quota and as per the existing Government rules for Management quota.

 

Facilities

 

The Institute has highly qualified and experienced teachers with reputation in their areas of specialization. It features well -furnished, enormously-stacked, computerized Central Library that functions with a modern system of cataloguing. Besides books on different subjects, the library also provides wide range of reading materials including international and national research journals, magazines, general periodicals and dailies. 

 

Library


The college Central Library is named after Prof. V .Jagannatha Panicker who was a great scholar, renowned teacher and a journalist par excellence. His unique collection of invaluable books on all branches of knowledge was donated by his family to the Central library and maintained here as Prof. Jagannatha Panicker Knowledge Centre.  The Central Library and Information Centre offer a wide range of resources and services. It attempts to provide accurate and up-to-date information to support the curricula needs of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The library facility consists of Information Desk, Circulation section, Reference section, Periodical Section, Stack area, Bound Volumes section, E-Learning Centre, Humanities & Social Science section and Reprographic Centre. The library is fully automated and the collection is accessible online through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The library follows the open stack access policy for its members.
They have a book collection of 26767 volumes and 9851 titles and continue to grow both in quantity and quality and  have recently added so many books to cater to the needs of the postgraduate students. Besides books, the collection includes magazines, technical journals, newspapers, CD/DVD’s. In addition to this they provide access to over 1500 e-journals and thousands of conference proceedings through IEEE-ASPP/POP and other online databases.  The core collection covers subjects such as computer science, information technology, engineering, pure sciences, life sciences and business management. The humanities and social science section of our library is very unique and invaluable. 


Hostel


The college campus is a complete educational township. The College has separate in-campus hostel facilities for both girls and boys. A Resident Doctor takes care of the medical needs of students. The hostels have wardens and resident tutors for educational guidance. The rooms are fully furnished, well designed, large and airy with the best in conveniences. 24 hours running water is ensured. Mess facilities are well supervised and students get wholesome, nutritious food of their choice. Homely ambience combines with rich educational function to define the environs of the college hostels.


Internet Lab


The campus has over 800+ computers. A common computer lab for all the students is arranged in the administrative building. This has 60 Computers with necessary softwares and 32 Mbps leased line Internet connectivity. This is Open to students at all times during the college hours as well as after college hours upto 10PM in the night and on holidays


Auditorium 


As a decennial amenity a multi-purpose auditorium with a capacity of 1500. It is envisaged as a multi-purpose sports complex and hall can accommodate under basketball court and shuttle court. In addition it is provided with gymnasium for boys and girls and other indoor games. 


Gymnasium 


Gymnasium is set up in the Men’s Hostel and Ladies Hostel with state of the art equipment. 


Sports and Games 


Sports facilities are provided to the students under the Professor of Physical education. We have facilities for indoor and outdoor activities. Indoor facilities are provided for Table Tennis, Chess and Caroms. Outdoor facilities are provided for Volleyball, Basketball, football, cricket, shuttle Badminton and athletics. With the commissioning of the auditorium indoor basketball and shuttle court also will be functioning. 


Language Lab 


A Language Lab with 30 computers has been installed to improve the communication skills of the students. During their period of study in the college, compulsory classes for communication would be conducted. This lab is being installed to improve the style and skill of both written and oral communication of the students, which is essential for the placements. 


Seminar Halls 


Fully equipped Seminar Halls are available in all departments. Each one is provided with an LCD projector, audio system and laptop. 


Canteen 


The college canteen which is functioning in the college campus provides all the delicious food / snacks at a highly subsidized rate. It can accommodate 200 students at a time. Evening fast food counter is provided for the benefit of hostlers. 


Central Computer and Internet Facility 


Central Computer and Internet Facility cater to the computing requirements of the institution. There are 700 Personal computers in the Institution. The central computer centre is equipped with 13 high end servers for various applications with UPS. There are three different networks existing in the college campus- one for Academic purpose, one for Administration and one for NPTEL video lectures and Intranet. Academic network connects all the computer labs in various departments. The networks support licensing of various softwares, Database, Internet, Intranet, CCNA Class, and various projects. Administrative network connects all departments, HOD’s, Faculty rooms and provide administrative data exchange. Intranet provides access to the students from various departments and library and seminar halls and main library. They can view the NPTEL or other video lectures given by eminent professors from IIT and other reputed institutions on various subjects. It also gives access to lecture notes, question bank of all subjects according to the syllabus. The central computing facility is located in the Administrative block. The working hour of the Central Computing Lab is from 8:30 AM to 10 PM and it is open on all days. The Centre is connected to Internet through a 8 Mbps leased line internet connection of BSNL, which is distributed to 100 terminals in the campus. At the user end, personal computers are connected to the servers through Ethernet switches and structured cabling system. Optic Fiber Connectivity is used for campus networking. Database automation software is used to integrate and automate the administrative and academic activities of the college. Mohandas college of Engineering & Technology has become a part of the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance. The MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) is a special program to provide academic institutions, faculty, and students in the curriculum areas of Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Systems to make it easier and less expensive to acquire Microsoft developer tools, platforms, and servers for instructional and research purposes.


Smart Classrooms 


As a first step in making the classrooms as smart classrooms each department is provided with a movable LCD projector along with a laptop which can be used in the classes. 


College Buses 


There are eighteen college buses which ply through the city and suburbs to the campus. They ply through different routes covering Attingal in north, Thiruvallam in south, Pettah in the west and Balaramapuram in east. There will be an additional bus which will leave the campus at 5.30 PM for those who are staying back for attending sports, library/computer centre. 


Reprographic Centre 


The reprographic centre is attached to the college library. Students can take photocopies of reference chapters from books / textbooks / magazines and question papers for the academic purpose.


Bank


Canara bank Anad Branch is functioning inside the campus. The bank operates from 10 am to 3:30 pm during normal working days and from 10 am to 1:00PM noon on Saturdays. However students will be permitted to use the bank between 11:15 AM and 1:15PM only. Arrangements have been made with the bank to receive Tuition fees, University fees etc, in addition to other banking transactions.

 

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC)


The objective of IEDC is enabling the students to start their own entrepreneurial ventures. The IEDC coordinator works closely with the University’s Entrepreneurship Development Cell and various State Government organizations which promote entrepreneurship. The cell conducts regular workshops & trainings for students on various aspects regarding startups, marketing and preparation of project reports, financial support, mentoring, venture capitals etc.


A Technology Business Incubation Centre (TIBIC) functioning under IEDC provides incubation support to potential entrepreneurs among the students. MCET students have availed the pre-incubation facility, and eight companies were successfully incubated and established. 
Interested students can join the EDC club from first year onwards, and participate in the activities of the cell. The students can also later avail the pre-incubation facility.
