  • Master's degree of a recognised University in Hindi/English with English/Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or as medium of examination at degree level; or
  • Master's degree of a recognised University in any subject other than Hindi/English with Hindi/English medium, and English/Hindi as compulsory/elective subject or as medium of examination at degree level; or
  • Master's degree of a recognised University in any subject other than Hindi/ English, with Hindi/and English as compulsory/elective subjects or either of the two as medium of examination and the other as a compulsory/elective subject at degree level, and
  • Diploma/Certificate Course in translation from Hindi to English and vice- versa from a recognised institution or two years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice-versa in Central/ State Government offices including Government of India Undertakings.

Job Role: Senior Translation Officer (STO) – CBDT Recruitment 2025

This is a Group 'B' post, usually filled on a deputation or promotion basis under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The role is central to ensuring accurate and high-quality translations between English and Hindi (or vice versa) for all official tax-related communications, circulars, manuals, notifications, and reports.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Translation Work:
    • Translate official documents, circulars, reports, manuals, tax orders, and notifications from English to Hindi and vice versa.
    • Maintain accuracy, tone, and meaning of the original content.
    • Ensure compliance with the Government of India’s Rajbhasha (Official Language) policies.
  2. Language Policy Implementation:
    • Assist in implementing the Official Language Act, 1963 and related rules across CBDT offices.
    • Promote the use of Hindi in official correspondence and communication.
    • Monitor compliance of staff with the use of Hindi as per government guidelines.
  3. Supervisory Role:
    • Supervise Junior Translators or Hindi translators in the department.
    • Review and finalize translated documents for publication or circulation.
  4. Administrative Support:
    • Maintain records related to translation work and Hindi implementation reports.
    • Coordinate with Rajbhasha units of other departments and Ministries.
  5. Training & Awareness:
    • Organize Hindi workshops, seminars, and training sessions for department staff.
    • Encourage usage of Hindi in routine official work.

Eligibility Criteria (Indicative)

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Master’s degree in Hindi or English with either subject as a compulsory or elective subject.
    • Diploma or certificate in translation preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Typically requires 5–10 years of experience in translation or official language work in Central/State Government departments.
  • Mode of Recruitment:
    • Likely through deputation from other Central Government departments or through promotion within the organization.
