- B.Sc. (Nursing) with successful completion of six months integrated curriculum of Certificate in Community Health (CCH) from an Indian Nursing Council/ State Nursing Council recognized Institute or University from academic year 2020 onward
- OR Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) with successful completion of six months Integrated curriculum of Certificate Course in Community Health (CCH) from an Indian Nursing Council/ State Nursing Council recognized Institute or University from academic year 2020 onwards
- B.Sc. (Nursing) / Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) / General Nurse and Midwifery (GNM) passed candidates who have completed Certificate Course in Community Health (CCH) through IGNOU/ other State Public Health/ Medical Universities as per curriculum of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India (specified for eligibility of CHOs by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GOD.

Job Role of a Community Health Officer (CHO):
A CHO acts as the leader and primary point of contact at the Sub-Health Centers (SHCs) upgraded to Health & Wellness Centers (HWCs). They are trained nurses or medical professionals responsible for delivering comprehensive primary healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities of a CHO:
- Delivery of Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC):
- Provide promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative services.
- Focus on managing non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, family planning, and common ailments.
- Implementation of National Health Programs:
- Actively engage in programs like RMNCH+A, NCD control, immunization, TB control, etc.
- Ensure proper reporting and record keeping.
- Management of the Health & Wellness Center (HWC):
- Ensure smooth functioning of the HWC.
- Maintain inventory, logistics, and necessary records.
- Community Outreach:
- Mobilize the community to access services.
- Coordinate with ASHAs, ANMs, and other grassroots workers for field visits and camps.
- Health Promotion and Disease Prevention:
- Conduct awareness activities.
- Promote healthy behavior and lifestyle practices in the community.
- Use of IT Tools:
- Utilize digital health platforms for service delivery, telemedicine consultations, and data entry.
- Emergency and Referral Services:
- Provide first-level emergency care.
- Facilitate referrals to higher health facilities when required.
- Capacity Building:
- Train and mentor ASHAs and other frontline workers.
