Qualification
Category – I Graduate Apprentices:
- A Degree in Engineering or Technology granted by a Statutory University in relevant discipline.
- A Degree in Engineering or Technology granted by an Institution empowered to grant such degree by an Act of Parliament in relevant discipline.
- Graduate examination of Professional bodies recognized by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent to above.
Category – II Technician (Diploma) Apprentices:
- A Diploma in Engineering or Technology granted by a State Council or Board of Technical Education established by a State Government in relevant discipline.
- A Diploma in Engineering or Technology granted by a university in relevant discipline.
- A Diploma in Engineering and Technology granted by an Institution recognized by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent to above.

- Graduate Apprentices: 12,000/- & Meals allowance
- Technician (Diploma) Apprentices: 10,200/- & Meals allowance

Job Role and Responsibilities: Category – I Graduate Apprentices
Graduate Apprentices at UCSL will undergo practical training and skill development in line with the Apprentices Act, 1961. Their key responsibilities include:
1. Technical Training
- Undergo structured on-the-job training in their respective engineering or professional disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Naval Architecture, IT, etc.).
- Assist in design, planning, fabrication, installation, and testing of shipbuilding and repair projects.
2. Departmental Support
- Work under the guidance of senior engineers and supervisors across departments like Production, Quality Control, Planning, Safety, and Design.
- Learn the operational workflow of shipbuilding and marine engineering environments.
3. Project Assistance
- Support ongoing projects through data collection, documentation, analysis, and process monitoring.
- Participate in quality audits, process improvement tasks, and technical reporting.
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain training records, prepare progress reports, and submit learning logs as per training guidelines.
- Assist in creating manuals, checklists, and SOPs where necessary.
5. Compliance and Safety
- Comply with company safety policies, ISO standards, and industry-specific regulations.
- Promote a safe and clean work environment, especially in docks and shop floors.
6. Learning & Development
- Attend regular mentorship sessions, reviews, and assessments.
- Acquire hands-on exposure to advanced tools, equipment, and shipyard management systems.
Job Role and Responsibilities: Category – II Technician (Diploma) Apprentices
Technician (Diploma) Apprentices at UCSL are trained under the Apprentices Act, 1961, to gain hands-on technical experience. Their responsibilities typically include:
1. Practical Skill Development
- Undergo supervised training in areas such as welding, fitting, machining, electrical maintenance, fabrication, or IT systems depending on their diploma discipline.
- Work alongside skilled technicians and engineers in workshops and on-site projects.
2. Assistance in Daily Operations
- Support day-to-day technical and operational tasks in assigned departments such as Production, Maintenance, Quality Control, Electrical, Civil, or Design.
- Assist in equipment operation, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
3. Field Work and Equipment Handling
- Learn to handle tools, machines, and instruments used in shipbuilding and repair.
