Job Role and Responsibilities – Firmware Developer
The Firmware Developer at IIT Ropar will be an integral part of research and development teams working on cutting-edge embedded systems and IoT-based projects. This role is particularly important for implementing low-level software solutions to interface with hardware components effectively.
Job Role:
The Firmware Developer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of firmware used in embedded systems. This includes working closely with hardware engineers and research teams to develop efficient, robust, and scalable firmware solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Firmware Development:
- Design and develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers (ARM, PIC, AVR, etc.).
- Write efficient, modular, and reusable code in C, C++, or Assembly.
- Develop low-level drivers for interfacing with sensors, actuators, and communication modules (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.).
- System Integration:
- Integrate firmware with hardware prototypes and perform system-level testing.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to debug and optimize system performance.
- Debugging and Troubleshooting:
- Use tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers to identify and fix firmware-related issues.
- Maintain logs and documentation for bugs and fixes.
- Testing and Validation:
- Develop test plans, simulation environments, and perform unit testing.
- Ensure firmware meets reliability and performance standards.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Document design specifications, technical reports, and user manuals.
- Regularly update project progress and coordinate with faculty/research supervisors.
- Research Collaboration:
- Assist in academic and industrial research collaborations.
- Contribute to technical papers, project proposals, and patent filings if required.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.).
- Familiarity with wireless protocols like BLE, Zigbee, LoRa, Wi-Fi.
- Understanding of power management in embedded devices.
- Experience with version control systems (Git).
- Prior experience in academic or R&D settings.
