As per the intent notice, a total of 6180 Technician Grade 1 and Grade 3 vacancies across 51 categories are expected to be released, based on assessments conducted by all zonal railways. This recruitment drive presents a golden opportunity for candidates, especially those who missed last year’s cycle, as such notifications are not frequently issued by the Indian Railways.

Although the official notification is yet to be published on the RRB website, the indent reply confirms the upcoming vacancies, with South Eastern Railway (SER) having the highest at 1,215 and East Central Railway (ECR) the lowest at 31. Indian Railways, comprising 18 zones and multiple Production Units, has approved these tentative vacancies, and the detailed Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) is expected to be released soon across all regional RRB websites. Candidates are advised to stay updated, as the final vacancy details will be officially confirmed in the upcoming notification.

Job Role: RRB Technician

Technicians in Indian Railways are categorized mainly into:

  • Technician Grade I Signal

  • Technician Grade III

They work in various departments such as Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication, and Engineering, depending on the post and trade.


 Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation and Maintenance

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of railway assets like signal systems, track circuits, telecom systems, electric locomotives, traction motors, and electrical panels.

  • Regular inspection and servicing of equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

2. Technical Assistance

  • Assisting senior engineers and supervisors in technical operations.

  • Working with tools, machinery, and electrical/mechanical systems.

3. Fault Detection

  • Troubleshooting faults in electrical/mechanical components and correcting them efficiently.

  • Ensuring minimum downtime of systems or components.

4. Safety Compliance

  • Strictly following safety protocols during maintenance or repair work.

  • Ensuring that all systems are functioning according to Indian Railways' safety standards.

5. Documentation

  • Keeping records of maintenance work, part replacements, and inspections.

  • Reporting issues to supervisors or higher authorities.

6. Field Work

  • Regular field assignments which may involve outdoor work in stations, workshops, and trackside.

  • Readiness to work in shifts and during emergencies.

 Work Environment:

  • Technicians work under zonal railways across India and may be posted in remote or urban locations.

  • Rotational shifts including night duty and holidays are common.
