IBPS Agricultural Field Officer (Scale I) – Job Role and Responsibilities
The Agricultural Field Officer (AFO) is a Specialist Officer (SO) Scale I under the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), primarily responsible for promoting agricultural loans and supporting rural and agricultural banking operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and Disburse Agricultural Loans
- Identify and reach out to farmers and agribusinesses for loan products like Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), crop loans, dairy/poultry/fishery loans, etc.
- Guide customers through documentation and eligibility requirements.
- Financial Advisory and Support to Farmers
- Provide technical guidance to farmers on modern agricultural practices.
- Advise on crop selection, irrigation techniques, fertilizers, and government schemes.
- Field Visits and Area Surveys
- Conduct regular visits to rural and semi-urban areas to assess ground realities.
- Evaluate crop conditions, borrower credibility, and loan recovery prospects.
- Liaison with Government and Agriculture Departments
- Coordinate with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), NABARD, and local agricultural offices for schemes, subsidies, and policy updates.
- Risk Assessment and Recovery Monitoring
- Monitor loan utilization and ensure timely repayment.
- Identify and mitigate risks such as crop failure or natural disasters.
- Policy Implementation and Report Preparation
- Implement RBI and bank policies related to priority sector lending.
- Prepare reports on loan disbursal, crop patterns, default risks, etc.
- Customer Relationship Management
- Build trust and maintain relationships with rural clientele.
- Address grievances and offer value-added services to improve customer satisfaction.
- Support in Agri-Tech and Digital Adoption
- Encourage the use of digital banking, mobile apps, and online platforms among farmers.
- Support in deployment of agricultural technologies promoted by the bank.
Work Environment:
- Mostly field-based in rural/semi-urban branches or agricultural development centers.
- Involves travel for on-site inspections and customer interaction.
