Qualification

Must have passed Intermediate Examination or its equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

No person shall be eligible for appointment by direct recruitment to the post of FBO / ABO in the Service, unless he is not less than 163 Cms in height not less than 84 Cms round the chest on full inspiration and has a chest expansion of not less than 5 Cms on full inspiration.
In case of women candidates, they must not be less than 150 Cms in height, not less than 79 Cms round the chest on full inspiration and a chest expansion of not less than 5 Cms on full inspiration.
Provided the minimum height is relaxable by 5 Cms, in the case of the candidates who belong to Gurkhas, Nepalese, Assamese, NAFA, Naga, Manipur, Gauhati, Kummoni, Sikkimese, Bhutanese and Scheduled Tribes.
Provided further that in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, where the reserved quota cannot be fully utilized for want of sufficient number of candidates possessing the requisite physical qualifications, the physical standards shall not be less than 158 Cms in height and not less than 78.8 Cms round the chest on full inspiration with a minimum expansion of 5 Cms.
The candidate should possess normal eye sight apart from the physical requirements prescribed above.
The eligible candidates selected in written test shall be subjected to the test of walking.
In case of Male candidates, a distance of 25 Kms walking is to be completed in 4 hours duration. In case of Women candidates, a distance of 16 Kms is to be completed in 4 hours duration.

Forest Beat Officer – Job Role and Responsibilities

The Forest Beat Officer (FBO) plays a crucial role in conserving forests, protecting wildlife, and ensuring enforcement of forest laws within a designated beat (area). This is a field-level position that requires vigilance, physical fitness, and dedication to environmental protection.

Key Responsibilities:

Forest Protection and Law Enforcement:
- Patrol the assigned forest beat regularly to prevent illegal activities such as deforestation, poaching, encroachment, and smuggling of forest produce.
- Detect, report, and take initial action against violations of forest laws and rules.
- Assist in conducting raids against forest-related crimes in coordination with higher officials and police when needed.
Wildlife Protection:
- Safeguard wildlife and natural habitats within the beat.
- Monitor wildlife movement and report any unusual activities or emergencies.
- Assist in rescue operations involving injured or stray wild animals.
Afforestation and Conservation Activities:
- Supervise plantation works and participate in afforestation, reforestation, and regeneration programs.
- Ensure protection and maintenance of planted saplings and nurseries.
Forest Resource Management:
- Keep records of forest produce, plantations, and other forest resources within the beat.
- Assist in the sustainable extraction of minor forest produce by local communities under regulations.
Fire Prevention and Control:
- Monitor fire-prone areas and take preventive steps during dry seasons.
- Act promptly during forest fires and coordinate with fire control teams for extinguishing fires.
Community Interaction and Awareness:
- Coordinate with local communities, explain the importance of forest conservation, and encourage participatory forest management.
- Spread awareness about forest laws and environmental conservation.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain daily activity reports, beat diaries, maps, and logs.
- Submit reports to the Forest Section Officer or Range Officer regarding beat conditions, activities, and any incidents.
Other Duties Assigned by Superiors:
- Assist Forest Section Officers, Range Officers, and higher authorities in departmental tasks, surveys, and inspections.

Assistant Beat Officer – Job Role and Responsibilities

The Assistant Beat Officer (ABO) assists the Forest Beat Officer and other senior forest officials in protecting forest resources, enforcing forest laws, and supporting field-level conservation activities. It is an entry-level post in the A.P. Forest Subordinate Service.

Key Responsibilities:

Support in Forest Protection:
- Assist the Forest Beat Officer in patrolling forest areas to prevent illegal activities like tree felling, encroachments, and smuggling of forest produce.
- Report suspicious or illegal activities to the concerned authorities promptly.
Wildlife and Habitat Protection:
- Help in safeguarding the wildlife and natural ecosystems.
- Participate in wildlife monitoring and rescue activities under supervision.
Participation in Plantation and Conservation Work:
- Take part in afforestation and reforestation programs.
- Assist in maintenance of nurseries and protection of newly planted saplings.
Fire Prevention and Control Assistance:
- Aid in fire prevention measures such as fire line clearing and controlled burning.
- Actively support firefighting operations during forest fires.
Forest Produce Monitoring:
- Help in monitoring and guarding timber depots, nurseries, and other forest assets.
- Assist in managing the extraction and transportation of forest produce as per departmental rules.
Record Keeping and Reporting Assistance:
- Maintain basic records such as visitor logs, incident reports, and patrol logs under the guidance of the Forest Beat Officer.
- Collect field data and help in preparing reports.
Community Engagement Support:
- Participate in awareness drives and help in educating local communities about forest laws and environmental protection.
Other Field Duties as Assigned:
- Carry out duties assigned by the Forest Beat Officer, Forest Section Officer, or higher authorities.
- Assist in surveys, demarcation of forest boundaries, and data collection.

Work Conditions:

Primarily outdoor field duties in forest areas and rural locations.
