Training Programme on Khadi Weaving

Khadi or khaddar is handspun and hand-woven cloth from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan mainly made out of cotton. The cloth is usually woven from cotton and may also include silk, or wool, which are all spun into yarn on a spinning wheel called a charkha.

 

Eligibility for Admission

  1. A pass in Matriculation is the basic Academic qualification for some selected training programme and the minimum qualification for the other  courses  shall be 8th  standard .
  2. Age limit being  18 to 45 years for Stipendery courses and up to 50 for Non Stipendery Courses. Original School Certificate with one Xerox copy shall be submitted by the applicant at the time of Interview   to be conducted by the State Level training Advisory Committee constituted by KVIC . 20% Reservation for SC/ST/OBC  Trainees including age relaxation is applicable as per rules
  3. Satisfactory health conditions to put on hard work in practical.
  4. Any candidates can apply for any course and those who have sponsored by the recognized Khadi & V. I Institutions will be preferred for?? selection and admission
  5. Candidates are permitted to attend only one Stipendery course.
  6. Habitual Khadi wearing  within the campus, participation in community work and keeping punctuality during the Training period are very essential
  7. Medium of instruction will be Malayalam or English

Mode of Selection

The State Level Training Committee  (SLTAC ) of KVIC Govt. of India headed by State Director, KVIC, Thiruvananthapuram as Chairman will select  thew candidates by calling an interview. They will conduct the final examination (both theory and practical) at the end of each  courses  and the Certificate will be issued those who won the exam including Provisional Certificate.

Other Facilities :-

  1. If the candidate are selected under Stipendery courses, they are eligible for  KVIC stipend as per rules .
  2. Free loading at Vidyalaya Hostel and it’s Extension Centers with moderate facilities separately for Men and Women .
  3. Trainees shall take food in the Mess run by the Trainees on dividing system and it will be adjusted against stipend.
  4.  The Vidyalaya has a library with more than 5000 Books on Malayalam & English.
  5. The trainees who completed Weaving courses will be rehabilitated by the Institution at it’s various Khadi Production centers  functioning at Kurumpanadom , Athirampuzha & Amalagiri. Those who completed V.I Training Courses can set up their  own Units by availing Margin Money Scheme offered by KVIC under PMEGP Scheme . For assisting the beneficiaries for this purpose, one Rural Industries Consultancy Service Cell  (RICS Cell) also functioning in the vidyalay

Achievements to be Highlighted

The Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya Mallappally is started on 16-8-1986 with one batch of 20 female Trainees for New  Weavers Course . Gradually we have started Semi Automatic Loom Weaving course in Cotton , Muslin and polyvastra , Kuppadom Weaving, Khadi  Spinning and weaving course .During the year 1998-99 the Vidyalaya is upgraded and started various Village Industries courses.

We have also received the best performance award from NABARD in SHG Bank Linkage programme during the year 2001-02 &2002-03

Out of various Training programme the carpentry  &Wood designing is the most employment oriented training programme .

During the year 2003-04 Khadi &V .I Commission also granted one RICS Cell to Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya Mallappally for promoting REGP schemes. It attracts many entrepreneurs. The Vidyalaya is also conducting 3 days EDP Training exclusively for the REGP Beneficiaries
