Sara Tendulkar will be part of Australia's Come and Say G'Day tourism campaign

Sara Tendulkar, daughter of the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has been appointed the brand ambassador for Australia's International tourism campaign, Come and Say G'Day. Paving her way, she is stepping into the global spotlight with the campaign. 

The 27-year-old will be part of the campaign, which is reportedly worth a whopping USD 130 million and will run for two years. The campaign aims to encourage international travellers to take an Australian trip, according to an Economic Times Report. It is also believed to go live in all key markets before the end of the year, starting with China on August 7. 

Known for her growing fan following on social media, Sara Tendulkar will be joining global personalities like UK food writer and TV cook Nigella Lawson, Australian wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin, Chinese actor Yosh Yu, and Japanese comedian Abareru-kun. Her presence in the campaign is a way to attract Indian youth to visit Australia. Australian actor Thomas Weatherall will also feature in the new advertising creative. Ruby the Roo, a CGI kangaroo who became the cuddly mascot of the Australian campaign's first outing in 2022, will also be part of the campaign.  

In an effort to strengthen Australia and India's connections, the Australian government is making a strategic move to bring Sara on board for the campaign. The campaign is designed as a TV series and online video advertisements showcasing the best of Australia has to offer. Reportedly, Sara Tendulkar will be seen across different media, including digital platforms, encouraging Indian audiences to explore Australia's unique blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty.

The Managing Director of Tourism Australia, Philip Harrison, said that these international stars will combine with local talent to "create bespoke invitations for five markets that are tailored for each country to showcase the sort of tourism experiences travellers are looking for." 

The second installment of the campaign is set to run for two years and may bring the Australian Federal Government's total investment to $255 million.

  • Sara was born on October 12, 1997 in Mumbai. She turned 27 this year.
  • Her maternal grandmother, Annabel Mehta, the mother of Anjali Tendulkar, is of British descent. She moved to India after marrying Sara's grandfather, Anand Mehta.
  • Sara's favourite cuisines are, sushi, Indian and Italian, she told Femina India. Her favourite travel destinations are Bali and Italy.
  • Growing up, Sara had three cats and two fish as pets. She now has two dogs at home.
  • She is a fitness enthusiast who is regularly snapped outside her gym in Mumbai. Even while on holiday in Dubai this week, she hit the gym with a pilates session.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar revealed on Wednesday that Sara Tendulkar, his daughter, has taken up the position of director at the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation (STF). Making the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, Sachin expressed his immense happiness about the development.
Sara's new role focuses on strengthening the nation's capabilities in sports, healthcare, and education sectors.

"I'm overjoyed to share that my daughter Sara Tendulkar has joined the @STF_India as Director. She holds a Master's degree in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition from University College London. As she embarks on this journey to empower India through sports, healthcare, and education, it serves as a reminder of how global learning can come full circle," Tendulkar said.

Sachin accumulated 34,357 runs while appearing in 664 international matches in his illustrious career, maintaining an average of 48.52. He holds the distinction of being the highest run-scorer in international cricket. His remarkable achievement includes 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries, the most in international cricket history. He stands alone as the only player to achieve a hundred international centuries. In ODIs, Sachin established numerous records, scoring 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83, including 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. In Test cricket, he amassed 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78, comprising 51 centuries and 68 fifties.

Sachin holds the record for highest runs in both cricket formats. He achieved two significant milestones by becoming the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs and participate in 200 Test matches. Sachin was a member of the victorious Indian team that secured the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. Following his World Cup debut in 1992, his aspiration to win the prestigious trophy was realised in 2011 when India defeated Sri Lanka in the final.
