Duties & Responsibilities of an Acupuncturist 

  • Carefully listening to the problems of the patient

  • Examining and diagnosing patient's symptoms, physiological disorders and injuries

  • Taking patient's medical history, their physical and emotional health, lifestyle and diet as well as sometimes taking their blood pressure

  • After diagnosing the exact problem, they explain to patients about the treatment they will perform and answer any questions patients may have

  • For the treatment, they take various factors into account, such as deciding the size of needles to use and where to insert them (there are 365 acupuncture points on the body).

  • Selecting specific points on the body to be treated and inserting needles according to the level of stimulation required.

  • Keeping records of treatment given to each patient.

  • Recommend therapeutic exercise or dietary guidelines to the patients

 

Skills required

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills

  • Understanding and sensitivity

  • Patience

  • Self-awareness and emotional stability

  • A logical approach to solving problems

  • Good hand-eye coordination and a steady hand

  • Meet with patients in 30 to 60 minute appointments.

  • Discuss treatment options and preventative measures

  • Insert needles to the appropriate body part for treatment

  • Maintain patient records

  • Monitor patients’ progress

  • Ensure all safety, infection, quality and environmental procedures and rules are in place and used

Higher Studies after BSS Diploma in Acupuncture

  • Students who have qualified SSLC and completed one year of BSS Diploma in Acupuncture are eligible to get admission to the first year B. Voc in Acupuncture course (first semester)

  • Students who have completed Plus two and one year of BSS Diploma in Acupuncture are eligible to get direct admission to the second year of B. Voc in Acupuncture course (3rd  semester).
