Medical psychology is the application of psychological principles to the practice of medicine, and is clearly comprehensive rather than primarily drug-oriented, for both physical and mental disorders. Medical psychologists use psychological theories and principles in order to improve the health and well-being of patients with physical illness. They are clinical psychologists who work in hospitals, medical centres, and health care facilities. A medical psychologist holds prescriptive authority for specific psychiatric medications and other pharmaceutical drugs must first obtain specific qualifications in Psychopharmacology.
