Poultry Technology is the study of raising domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkey, and geese to cultivate meat or eggs for food. Farmers raise in excess of 50 billion chickens every year as a source of food, both for their meat and for the eggs. Chickens raised for eggs are usually called layers while chickens raised for meat are often called broilers. Poultry is a term utilized for any sort of domesticated birds, captive-raised for its utility. Poultry can be characterized as residential fowls, including chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks, raised for the production of meat or eggs and the word is likewise utilized for the flesh of these birds used as food.

Duties

• To select healthy cockerels and hens for fertilization

• Tending to newly hatched chicks

• Vaccinate chicks in order to prevent disease and trim beaks in order to prevent chickens from cannibalizing other birds

• Transporting boxes that both conserve heat and provide ventilation because the domestic birds need temperature.

• Take care of cages in which laid eggs gently roll down onto a conveyor belt and are transported to a processing facility.

• Packaging for shipment.

• Raising chicks involves feeding and watering

• Monitor the chickens' health, taking action on any signs of disease or injury.

• Track food consumption and body weight in order to breed lean, healthy chickens for meat processing and fertile layers for egg production.

• Record chicken size, health, and other factors in order to determine which breeds produce the highest quality offspring.

Higher Studies after BSS Diploma in Poultry Technology

• Students who have qualified 1oth and completed two years of BSS Diploma in Poultry Technology are eligible to get admission in the second year of the B. Voc course in Poultry Technology (third semester).

• Students who have completed 12^th and two years of BSS Diploma in Poultry Technology are eligible to get direct admission to the third year of B. Voc  course in Poultry Technology( fifth semester)
