Occupational health refers to the identification and control of the risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards to establish and maintain a safe and healthy working environment. Occupational health deals with all aspects of health and safety in the workplace and has a strong focus on primary prevention of hazards.
The health of the workers has several determinants, including risk factors at the workplace leading to cancers, accidents, musculoskeletal diseases, respiratory diseases, hearing loss, circulatory diseases, stress-related disorders and communicable diseases and others. Employment and working conditions in the formal or informal economy embrace other important determinants, including, working hours, salary, workplace policies concerning maternity leave, health promotion, and protection provisions, etc.
Eligibility Criteria for BSS Diploma in Occupational Health

The applicant must be completed Tenth standard or Twelfth or its equivalent from a recognized school board.

Duties and Responsibilities
-
Developing and implementing health and safety programs
-
Developing disease prevention programs, such as smoking cessation, exercise, and healthy eating programs
-
Documenting all employee injuries and illnesses within the workplace
-
Observing and assessing the work environment for potential dangers and hazards
-
Treating injuries and illnesses for employees, including follow-ups and referrals
-
Overseeing and implementing emergency and disaster preparedness programs and planning
-
Serving as a gatekeeper for healthcare services, including rehabilitation and disability matters
-
Counselling employees on physical and mental health issues and guiding them toward community resources and/or employee assistance programs
-
Monitoring the health status of employees
-
Conducting research on the effects of hazardous work conditions or workplace exposures, which may include gathering data and reporting findings to the employer
-
Identify hazards in the workplace
-
Collect samples of potentially toxic materials for analysis
-
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with corporate and government health and safety standards and regulations
-
Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions
-
Investigate accidents and incidents to identify their causes and to determine how they might be prevented in the future
-
Conduct training on a variety of topics such as emergency preparedness

Higher Studies after BSS Diploma in Occupational Health

Students who have completed one year of BSS Diploma in Occupational Health course after Tenth or Twelfth are eligible to get admission to the related Under Graduation courses or its equivalent.
