Google Announces : Android Skills and Certification program

In support to the PM Modi Governments Skill India Mission: Google launches  : Android Skills and Certification program with a focus to train two million Android developers.

This course curriculum will be made available across universities and training institutes of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Google has been focusing on training students to develop apps for Android and aims to train around two million Android developers and certify them. The Android Developer training will be available free of cost across Universities in India. By unveiling multiple initiatives across training partners and universities, Google is looking to make world-class Android Developer education accessible to millions of students and developers.

According to Google they have looked out to universities to integrate the in-person training with the cirriculum of Computer Science coursed at Universities this year. The courseware and all practical’s have been made available free of charge.

Google is working with the following universities to work  in this course, more universities to be added.

1.         Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation (APSSDC)

2.        Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University

3.        Amity University

4.        G.D. Goenka University.

5.        Manav Rachna International University

6.       Lovely Professional University

7.        Rayat Bahra University

8.       Teerthanker Mahaveer University

Google has also partnered with training institutes such as Edureka, Koenig, Manipal Global, Simplilearn, Udacity and UpGrad which will function as Authorised Android Training Partners in India.

The Android Fundamentals course will be available free of cost on NPTEL which is an initiative by the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) from 18 July onwards as part of its Mobile Computing Course.

It was also announced to support potential Android developer employers. It is a globally recognized certificate which can be obtained by clearing a performance based exam. This can help candidates obtain entry-level Android Developer jobs easily.

"We introduced the Android Nanodegree programme in India last year with Udacity and today, we have over 11,500 students in India enrolling every month in our courses," said Peter Lubbers, Head of Google Developer Training.

Speaking at the launch of this initiative, Ceaser Sengupta, Vice President of product management at Google said, “India is expected to have the largest developer population globally, overtaking the US by 2018, with four million developers. By building a world class curriculum and making it easily accessible to millions of students and developers in India, we want to contribute to the Skill India initiative and help make India the global leader in mobile app development.”

Google also launched an instructor-led training programme on Android fundamentals to provide an in-person training to students in universities.

Certification is priced for Rs6500.00
