HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar holds discussion with RSS bodies , its affiliates to discuss new education policy

New Delhi, July 28, 2016

At a time when his Ministry is in the final stages of preparing a New Education Policy, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar held a meeting with leaders of some RSS-affiliated organisations.

The meeting, which lasted for several hours, took place at Gujarat Bhawan here yesterday and discussed issues related to education.

"It was a several hours long meeting in which various issues related to education were discussed," a source said.

Members of Vidya Bharati, ABVP, Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh, Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Sanskrit Bharati, Vigyan Bharati and Itihas Sankalan Yojana were present at the meeting.

While Javadekar had earlier attended an RSS-linked event on the New Education Policy, this was a comprehensive discussion with RSS-affiliated organisations related to education.

The HRD Ministry has sought inputs from all concerned on the New Education Policy based on a report submitted by a committee headed by former Cabinet Secretary T S R Subramanian.

“The meeting was part of the government-organisational interface that was established after the Modi government came to power. Since Javadekar ji is new to the ministry, we updated him about the grassroot level challenges and the reforms required in the education sector. Social Justice Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram also attended for some time as their ministries deal with education of tribals, reserved castes and backward classes,” an RSS functionary said.

The Ministry has recently extended the last date for submitting suggestions from July 31 to August 16.
