New Delhi : With a 100% placement record this year, the government-run skill development Centre is on its next mission — Triple 12. Now, the Delhi Government too plans to upgrade its ITIs in line with the WCSC.

Youngsters are queuing up for admission at the World Class Skill Centre and not without reason. With a 100% placement record this year, the government-run skill development Centre is on its next mission  Triple 12: the institute will train Class XII passouts for 12 months to help them earn Rs 12 lakh per annum.

For the current session, the institute  started in collaboration with the Singapore government in 2013  has received 2,000 applications for 400 seats. And it's not just those freshly out of schools who are making a beeline to the institute to learn a new skill or two, and make a career out of it. Among the aspirants are those who have already completed their graduation from premier institutions, including St Stephen's College.

D P S Verma, WCSC project director, said: "When the centre started in 2013, it offered just two courses. In 2015, we introduced two more and went full capacity with 400 students in each of our two batches. The trainers undertook a six-month course in Singapore."

Among the courses on offer are hospitality operations, retail services, software testing and finance. This year, 18 students found placement in places as varied as Maldives, Dubai, New Zealand, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and the UK. Among the hiring companies were Adidas, Reebok, Nike, Marks and Spencers. "We collect data on the vacancies available in the market and, based on that, the number of seats for a particular course is increased or decreased. We ensure that everyone has a job by the end of the course," claimed Verma.

While the centre is currently functioning out of the Industrial Training Institute, Vivek Vihar, a 37-acre campus is coming up at Jonapur. Detailing the future plans, Verma said: "We plan to have 31 courses with 10,000 regular trainees and 5,000 others, including industrial workers. There will be separate hostels for girls and boys with 1,000 seats each. The project will take 18-20 months."

Now, the Delhi Government too plans to upgrade its ITIs in line with the WCSC. Manoj Kumar, director, directorate of training and technology education, said: "We have entered into a partnership with world-class leaders, such as Maruti, Daikin, Samsung and UNDP, among others. They will help our students learn the latest technology and, in turn, the industries will get trained manpower."
