B.Voc in Poultry Health Inspector is a paramedical course which can be pursued after passing class 10 or 12. This course is suitable for those who would like to pursue their career in public health, sanitation and poultry technology. Poultry health inspectors ensure the quality and health conditions of domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks and turkeys.

Poultry health inspectors are trained to prevent the spreading of disease among the birds and to maintain their health conditions. With the growth of poultry production and poultry industry, there are various job opportunities available for Poultry health inspectors in India and abroad.

 

Eligibility Criteria for B. Voc in Poultry Health Inspector

 

  • Students who have completed plus two are eligible to get admission in the B.Voc course generally.

  • Those who have qualified SSLC and completed one year of BSS Diploma course in Poultry Health Inspector are eligible to get admission to the of B. Voc course.

  • Students who have completed Plus two and one year of BSS Diploma course in Poultry Health Inspector are eligible to get direct admission to the second year of B. Voc course (3rd  semester).

 

Course Duration

 

  • Three years for those who enter into the course generally.

  • Candidates who have completed relevant and equivalent course are possible to get admission through lateral entry scheme (For further reference check Eligibility criteria section).

 

Poultry Health Inspector Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • inspection of birds prior to slaughter

  • inspection of each bird carcass after slaughter and before processing

  • inspection of plant facilities to ensure sanitary conditions

  • inspection of all slaughtering and processing operations

  • verification of the truthfulness and accuracy of product labeling

  • inspection of imported poultry products at the point of entry

 

Poultry Health Inspector Skills & Competencies

 

The skills necessary to perform this job effectively include:

  • Knowledge of Poultry Welfare Issues: The ability to consider poultry welfare issues when performing an inspection

  • Verbal and Written Communication Skills: The ability to write and present reports, good communication skills

  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work as a team with others such as veterinarians, pet owners, and poultry business owners

  • Evaluation and Assessment Skills: The ability to assess the condition of the birds and its environment to confirm that it is in compliance with all local and state laws and regulations

  • Organization Skills: The ability to organize all inspection findings and lab results to prepare reports and other evidence that may be required when testifying in court

 

 

Work Environment

 

  • Poultry health inspectors work on a full-time basis. If there are any chances of emergency such as contagion breakout, overtime and long hours might be required.

  • Poultry inspectors work at private commercial slaughtering plants, inspecting birds before and after slaughter. They also check the processing plant ensures all federal regulations for processing and sanitation.
